We had 5 TRW members suit up and race the ridiculously tough Mt Pleasant Winery course in Augusta. This course is good for mountain bikers, but with all the ups and downs its not a good course for single-speeders or bodybuilders. Nick and I were on our single-speeds although he entered the C race with Corey, Adam, and Justin.
The single-speeders got a 10-second head start, but it wasn't long before Nick caught up with me. Shortly after Corey came past. Then a while later Adam came by. Justin rode a strong race finishing mid-pack. Adam suffers from the same problem as Sonya - he's too damn nice about passing. You're a big dude, Adam. Just knock those scrawny punks out of the way. As long as they're not wearing a Red Wheel jersey anyway.
Noelle did the running event. Better her than me. Dana entered the womens race and rode well. Bob and Cara were there to spectate and heckle. Bob was responsible for me getting my first hand-up. Single-speeders and C racers don't get hand-ups often. On my last lap, I came by and heard them screaming at me to "Get the Hornet's Nest! Get the Hornet's nest!" I didn't know WTH(what the heck) they were talking about until I noticed a kid holding her hand out with a hornet's nest. No hornets inside, thankfully. So I took it and threw it at Bob. I was hoping for a beer or at least a dollar.
After the race, we hung out at the biggest hill cheering/heckling the A and B racers. Hopefully not too many incriminating photos pop up on the internet. Bob made a special point to heckle the CBC racers from Columbia. He may be on to something. How about we start a rivalry with them, instead of each other? Just a thought.
Here's a video of the first lap of the race. Justin makes an appearance beating the cameraman off the line. About the 2:25 mark you'll see me pushing my bike up the hill.

Corey, I know you are out because Huffy's will be half price at Wal-mart but the rest of you should come on down and roll...Bopp, I will even help you change your 7 flats!

The Trail of the Four Winds(Ole Glory), for the 14th annual Turkey Day Ride. The ride starts at 8:00 AM.
This is the annual ride that the lake boys go on. I will be going so if any of you jerks want to go show up at the trail head at 7:30 OR just stay home and play with your turkeys (Stoney)! The trail was cleaned a couple of weeks ago and I have been told itβs in EPIC (Sorry Barry for the word misuse) shape!

That's right folks, due to the huge turn out of riders at last Sunday's Boonedoggle ride, I've decided to get some religion about this ride and do it every Sunday, until at least the end of the year. Every Sunday, I will be ready to clip in at 8:30 from the North Jefferson Lot. We will be riding the Boone doggle loop or some version of it. This is a great ride and there are at least two bail out points, that I know of, that would turn the ride into a 30ish and 45ish mile ride. To keep the fellowship, some of us will be hitting one of Jenkin's favorite haunts, Dos Primos, after the ride. Of special note, I've decided the fourth Sunday of the month is a time to be especially reverent and will therefore be doing a double Holy Boone doggle. If anyone is brave enough to attend this ride, we will be leaving at 7:30 AM instead of our regular 8:30. Make sure to bring a light source, as we will probably be rolling in after dark. See ya all there. Oh Yeah and as soon as I learn how to make em, or maybe Stoney can help me out, I will be making a sweet boone doggle bracelet, like the one pictured above with Deb, and handing out to all weekly riders. I can't wait... Let the gravel fun begin!

I promised a post so here it is:
The ankle injury I sustained last November 4th never fully healed correctly, so I was forced to take drastic means and get it fixed. After suffering through the summer months of pain and frustration I opted for surgery which was this past Monday (November 1st).
After getting to the hospital in Columbia around 5:30am I was soon wisked away to pre-op and got in my gown and got the IV started. Around 7 am the nurse shot some "stuff" in my IV and I immediately felt a little drunk. (Which I must say wasn't bad) At 7:15 I said good-bye to my wife and was taken into the OR. All I remember from there was transferring to the table and talking to the nurse. Next thing I know I was waking up in recovery.
I remember them asking how my pain was, but I was in and out of conciousness and must have said OK. They were going to give me a nerve block for the pain, but I said..."Team redwheelers don't get nerve blocks. They down pain meds and drink beer!" So it was a NO on the nerve block.
Somehow I made it through recovery and was taken to a recovery room where my wife was waiting. I greeted her and fell back asleep. I was in and out of conciousness for a couple hours and then they made me try to eat something. Not a good thing, as I had some trouble keeping things down. After upchucking crackers and sprite for a while I was finally able to keep something down and was released for home at 8:15 pm. It had been a long day.
I was told the surgery was a success but time will tell. The doc said it was a little worse than he thought and the surgery took a lot longer then he thought. I was in the OR a total of 5hr 35min where they scoped my ankle and repaired a couple torn ligaments, repaired an avulsion fracture, and took out a piece of cartilage that was floating around in there. No more basketball for me....
I will be in a softcast for 2 weeks, a hard cast for 6-8 weeks, a boot for another 6-8 weeks, and then rehab for 1-2 months. Ouch... I laid around with my foot in the air last week and am preparing for more of the same this week. The pain is Ok, but the real fun is mixing the pain meds and beer. When that happens I don't feel any pain. :-) I will return to work next week.
I promised a poloroid so here ya go. I have added more photos of what my ankle looks like after the soft cast came off. I now have it wrapped back up, but in a boot. Probably no cast which is good, but non-weight bearing for another 6 weeks.
