At the team meeting, some of us talked about doing Tuesday night training rides for Dirty Kanza. We had planned on going up to Coopers Landing and back(40 miles). We could also incorporate going up Mt. Pleasant Road and down Soft Pit hill road on the way there or River Road/Hartsburg Bottom road on the way back just to mix it up. We could also ride down to Mokane and back if we were really desperate. Lights will still be needed for the ride back.
We were thinking of these as preparation for Dirty Kanza, so if you're on a single-speed use the same gearing and if you're on gears, don't leave us too far behind. No need to bring your carbon tubulars unless you're riding them in the Kansas.
We'll be doing this ride until Binder dries up, perhaps in May? Wednesday nights, I believe, are still leaving from the Guvners' Mansion and we will be heading to Gumbo Bottoms afterward. I have no idea when the Wednesday night rides start up, but I plan on being at the paved Katy Trail parking lot this Tuesday(3/16).
As far as Binder, I walked the green loop Saturday and cleared a couple limbs off the trail, but others have obviously already cleared most of it, and did some re-armoring of a couple creek beds. A couple a-holes have been riding in the mud.
I got excited after walking the first 3/4 mile or so, thinking we could be riding in a few weeks, but after the first downhill, just past "The Mitch's Tree", it gets pretty sloppy. I didn't think the trail was in terrible shape, but it won't be ridable for a while. And no, just because you can power through the mud without falling doesn't mean its ridable.
