Dirty Kanza is a little over 4 months away. I've started riding laps around the block in preparation, and now its time to think about equipment. How am I going to carry the equipment and fuel I'll need for a 200 mile gravel ride on a singlespeed? Berry has previously suggested that I set my bike up like this...
The biggest problem with that bike is that there are no places to put water bottles, so I think I'll just stay with my singlecross. I have 2 water bottles on now, and I can add a third under the downtube. However, I've heard that running 3 bottles on the bike isn't cool, even for a 15-20 hour race. So for now its 2 bottles on the bike and my camelbak.
As nice as that pink basket looks, I think white would look better. I found this, but it is a little expensive.
I guess if you're not a pro, you gotta pay to look like you are. There are other options though.
I could go the tri-geek route and add a bento box, so my nutrition would always be in easy reach.
That's an option, but I might need more space to store all my nutrition for the race. Specialized has a nice front/rear rack system for the tricross...
According to their website, the front rack will hold a six pack of beer, uh I mean soda, uh I mean Hammer Nutrition energy drink. If I go with the rack though, I have to get panniers, and Nick will laugh at me again cuz I apparently don't pronounce pannier correctly.
The final option would be to go with the messenger bag...
I could get one of those flip-flop hubs so I could ride fixie, but I don't think I want to wear the skin tight pants. Also, I checked the rules(yes Bob, there are rules for this thing) and you have to wear a helmet.
So I've got a while before I have to make a decision, but what do you guys think?
