Bopp, Jason Wulff, and I drove up to St. Louis and raced the sandbagger C race. Peat rode his bike to the race and then did the B's and Singlespeed race. Justin was there too. He wore a Mesa jersey, so who gives a shit how he got there or what race he did.
I prerode the course and it wasn't really muddy but very soft, so at the last minute I decided to switch to the spare wheel Nick had let me borrow with an easier gear. Apparently, this caused me to miss my callup to the front row, so I had to line up at the back of the pack. The start was uphill on pavement so I was able to move up, but on the second section of pavement I was spun out and lots of people passed me. Shortly after that Bopp crashed some guy in a corner and I was able to get a few spots back. Thanks dude!
This was my first race on the new singlespeed cross bike. It's a big change from racing on a geared mountain bike. Yeah, I know what you're thinking - No shit, Sherlock.
Bopp and Jason spent most of the race riding near each other. On one of the last laps, Bopp went to blow his nose, hit a bump and went down, allowing Jason to get past him. Jason was able to hold Chris off on the sprint for 20th place. I mozied in another 10 spots back.
Dan Miller, of Team Seagal fame, easily rode away from the pack in the B race. The guy didn't even try to make it look hard. Peat finished middle of the pack riding a 42x17 gear, making me feel like a little female doggie for riding a 42x22.
In the A race, Jeff Yielding jumped to an early lead, and held it for much of the first lap. Unfortunately, his brakes started rubbing and he finished in 7th place. Still, a very respectable finish.
I got a few pictures of the B race, and tried to get some of the A race, but those guys were too fast for my camera. Yeah, it's the camera, not me. I did get a picture of some dude with toilet paper stuck to his shoe. Or maybe it's the yellow ribbon they mark the course with stuck in his derailleur, I'm not sure.
I put the crappy pictures that I didn't delete here. When others post some decent quality pictures, I'll add them.
We are discussing doing the Jefferson Baracks race next week. So far it looks like Bopp, Jason, Bob Jenkins, me and possibly Robby, maybe? Who else is goin?
