Last night was the final race of the Alpine Shop Dirt Crit Series. I figured it would either turn out extremely well or be a disaster. About 50 racers signed up for the B class. We took off across an open field, everyone try to get the hole shot. As usual, I got a poor start and was probably in 15th place or so. That wasn't the worst of it. I had no legs, no power. I keep my pace as high as I could until the last lap. Team Seagal wrist snapper Casey Ryback passed me at the start of the last lap. With my wirsts seriously snapped I was no longer able to accurately steer the bike and going into a corner my front tire washed out and I hit the deck hard. Fortunately, I didn't get run over but my bike did. About a dozen riders passed me while I lay there in the fetal position hoping not to be roadkill. I got up grabbed my bike, pedaled about 15 feet, got off my bike and laid down in the grass. Guess that hurt more than I initially thought. I laid there until every single racer had passed me. Then I slowly pedaled the reset of the course and finished DFL. Great way to end the series. No serious damage, just some trail rash and a small hole in my left shin.
My results for the series:
- Dirt Crit #1 - 13th
- Dirt Crit #2 - 5th
- Dirt Crit #3 - 5th
- Dirt Crit #4 - 6th
- Dirt Crit #5 -DFL
Big thanks to Pfoodman and the Alpine Shop for putting these races on. The fields in these races were huge, 40-50 in the B race each week and the C race had a similar sized fields. Just shows how much fun they were when you can attract that many racers to a weeknight race.
Now to get recovered for the Castlewood race on Sunday.
