Two days of racing, gas station egg rolls, sleeping on the ground, and bloody mary mix with no vodka. That could almost sum it up.
Bob Jenkins and Chris Bopp headed up to KC early Saturday morning for day one of the Smithville cross festival. Bob and Chris both had good races, Chris got third in the single speed class and Bob came in middle of the pack in cat 4 ( not bad for his 3rd race ever). Jessica Lynn, Nick C, and myself hopped in Nick's boogie van and met up with the guys that evening at the camp ground there at Smithville lake. On the 2nd day of racing Chris decided to race 3/4 wile the rest of us set up the EZ up and rang cow bells. His race started off good with him moving up towards the front of the pack passing 4 and 5 guys at a time, but..... about half way through the race after passing a couple of guys, Chris sat up, out of gas. He told me later that day he was spinning too fast to keep up with the guys up front. He needed a bigger gear. Next race, cat 4 / single speed. Nick C was the only one in the cat 4 race but we all lined up and went off together. Bob Jenkins was smart enough to preregister and got to start on the front line, and other than crashing some guy on the start, I'd say it worked out well for him finishing 11th in the single speed class (hey, single speeders don't mess around). Nick C and I both had good races coming in middle of the pack and Chris took 5th. After our races we pounded some chill, drank some beer, talked to friends, and rang cow bells. Not a bad way to spend an afternoon. KC races kick ass.
