No one's writing race reports any more. Heres one.
The crew decided to head up to Lenexa KS Sunday for the 1st KC cross race of the season. Andy, Chad, Chris B, Robby B, Bob J, Nick C, Lindsy, and myself rolled out of Jeff (30 minutes late Nick C) at 6:30 am. Andy, Chris B and myself raced the first race of the day, the 3/4. The three of us were dicking around and got to the line a little late, we had to start dead last behind 45 other racers. On the first lap Chris looked like he was working his way up pretty well, and Andy and I were starting to pass a few guys here and there. I was riding too aggressively, pushing it hard into the corners and sprinting out of them trying to make my way back up to at least the middle of the pack when Andy and some guy on a MTB passed me. I tried to hard to stay with them, riding too fast, spun out on a downhill corner, crashed, and twisted the shit out of my knee. Wile I'm laying on the ground 5 guys pass me. Wile I'm stooped at the next coroner rubbing my knee, 3 more guys pass me. I was pissed. Pissed at myself for pushing it so hard in a race I knew I had no chance of doing well in. I thought about quiting and saving any legs for the next race but figured I was here, I might as well finish even if it was dead last. After a few laps I got back into a grove, caught a few riders, and even worked my way back up to finish 37th. Andy came in 34th, and Chris did great with a 20th place finish (he had to pass over half the field).
Next race, cat 4 / single speed. We all raced this one. Nick C, Bob J, and Robby B, raced the 4's and Andy, Chris, and myself went out again in the single speed race. Guess where we started? Back of the pack. We gotta work on this. The 4's (all 60 of them) went out one minute before the single speeders. Chris got a good start in the SS race, and Andy and I just settled in the smaller (16 racers) group. It didn't take us long to catch up the the cat 4's and before we knew it we were riding in a group of 76 racers all mixed up on the 1.8 mile course. A few laps into the race I caught up with Bob J, he looked like he was having fun and even said something to me as I rode by. A few minutes later, on one of the switch back turns I hear Bob scream out in pain. I look back and see Bob sitting on his top tube holding his nuts. I guess his foot slipped off the pedal when he stood up to climb this small hill, and his balls were violently introduced to his top tube. Someone asked him later if he was OK and he said "lucky for me I have a very small penis so it wasn't that bad". Other than having his man jewels smashed I think Bob had a good time racing, finishing 46th. Robby did good too coming in 23rd, and Nick C got 16th (out of 60). Andy and I did OK in our last race of the day, he got 10th ,I got 11th. But Chris had his best race yet finishing one out of the money in 4th place.
After our races were over we regrouped under the EZ up, grabbed a few cold drinks, our new horns, and got down with some cowbells. I'm sure everyone in the 1/2/3 race appreciated our enthusiasm and drunken belligerence (that was three BIG words for me to spell, did I get em right?). Sir Chadwick of Boston was working the video camera again this weekend so hopefully we'll have footage later today or tomorrow. And thanks for Alyvne and Jessica Lynn for coming up and cheering us on. Good times!
