What can I say, some of us are just a little tougher than others.
I know the weather made it hard for some people to come down to this race but the weather is what made this race so fun. If you could sum this race up in one word it would be MUD! It was a foot and a half deep in some spots (no joke). It was so deep it would almost bring you to a stand still. You would push the crank down hoping to make it just a little farther before you stopped, then hop off and start running. The course was a little longer than were used to, combined that with the mud, we only did 4 laps.
Chad and Andy were the only two able to make it down from Jeff. Chad put on his fishing waders and went out on the course to take pictures wile Andy and I races the cat 4 race (or as we called it, the cat 4 race with a bunch of 3's and 2's in it). There were 17 racers in our race and as usual we finished right there in the middle. But the real race that day was between Andy and me. before the race wile we're getting our things together and warming up Andy and i are team mates, wearing our Red Wheel jerseys with pride, sizing up the competition, giving other racers dirty looks, but as soon as they blow that whistle OUR race is on. It's more like Andy and I racing each other with a bunch of other guys getting in our way. Nether one of us says anything competitive to each other during the race but we know what the other guy is thinking, "where the hell is he", and "is he getting tired yet?" Instead we play it off and say things like "hard course today" and " Sure is muddy". So when I passed him Sunday I had to make it look like I just happened to be rolling faster than he was (and make sure he never had the opportunity to do the same). After that we sloped our way around the course, Andy right behind me, until the very end when I put a small gap on him (and he crashed) and I took the win.
Now Andy will say that none of that is true, the whole "race inside a race" theory of mine, but it's true.....and you can believe me....because I'm a winner.
